Electrification Kit

Moving from diesel and gas prime movers to electric drive is a real trend across several heavy industries, not a marketing concept. Two applications where the demand is already established:

Case 1 ยท Oil & Gas

Electric fracturing (e-frac)

Hydraulic fracturing has traditionally run on diesel, but electric drive is displacing it quickly. E-frac fleets are widely deployed in the Permian Basin, where penetration has passed 30%. The case is lower operating cost, a smaller carbon footprint and considerably less noise.

  • Power: 500 kW โ€“ 3 MW per frac pump
  • Voltage: medium voltage, typically 4.16 kV
  • Machine type: large induction or permanent magnet synchronous
  • Deployment: trailer-mounted or skid-mounted

The direction of travel

The shift runs deeper than surface equipment. Subsea production and drilling control, historically hydraulic, has been moving to electric actuation for years. Surface fracturing is the same trend arriving somewhere more visible.

Case 2 ยท Cement

Converting cement kiln drives from DC to AC

A typical conversion

A 315 kW DC motor coupled to a large rotary kiln, to be replaced with a suitable AC motor and drive. The kiln shell is 3โ€“8 m in diameter and 50โ€“250 m long, turning at 1โ€“4 rpm. Characterising the existing machine correctly is the first step, because the replacement has to reproduce its torque behaviour at very low speed, not just its rated power.

DC drives on older lines increasingly face discontinued spare parts and rising maintenance cost, which makes AC conversion a practical rather than optional upgrade. More detail on the cement industry page and in this analysis.
