Frequently Asked Questions

No. TEFC (Totally Enclosed Fan-Cooled) describes a cooling and enclosure arrangement. Explosion protection is a separate system entirely, requiring specific certification such as Ex db, Ex e or Ex p. The two should never be treated as equivalent.
It depends on running hours and electricity price. For continuous duty — roughly 8,000 hours a year and above — payback is typically 18 to 24 months. Intermittent duty takes considerably longer to amortise the price premium. Use the calculator above to work through your own case.
Within the same frame size, NEMA or IEC, mounting dimensions are generally compatible. For each replacement we recommend checking the specific model's terminal arrangement, certification level and rotor inertia, since a mismatch against the existing drive parameters can cause problems that have nothing to do with the mechanical fit.
Standard NdFeB magnets have a working ceiling around 150 °C, above which demagnetisation is irreversible. For high-temperature duty, specify either an enhanced cooling design or SmCo magnets, which tolerate above 300 °C at higher cost.
