Industrial motor glossary
A motor datasheet is mostly abbreviations, and several of them are routinely read as meaning more than they do. Each entry here gives one definition, the code or standard behind it, what the term does not cover, and which LEADGO series the term actually applies to — generated from the same parameter data the product pages use.
Inverter Duty Motor

A motor specified to be fed from a frequency converter rather than the mains — insulation, cooling and speed range are all different.
TEFC Motor
TEFC · TEFC motor · totally enclosed fan cooled
A totally enclosed machine cooled by a fan on its own shaft. In IEC terms, cooling code IC411.
Explosion Proof Motor

A motor whose enclosure is certified to contain an internal explosion so the flame cannot reach the atmosphere outside it.
Interior Permanent Magnet Motor
IPM · IPM motor · IPMSM
A permanent magnet synchronous machine with the magnets buried inside the rotor, which makes the rotor magnetically salient.
Squirrel Cage Induction Motor

An AC motor whose rotor has no windings and no brushes — only bars shorted by end rings, with current induced into them by the stator.
Three-Phase Motor
3 phase motor · three phase electric motor · three phase motors
A motor supplied by three voltages 120 degrees apart, which together make the stator field rotate without any starting device.
Why these entries and not a hundred
A glossary is only worth reading if every entry says something a dictionary would not. Each of these covers a term that appears on our own datasheets, is defined by a standard we can name, and is commonly read as meaning more than it does. Terms get added when all three are true — not to fill out the alphabet.
