TYP-T3-F Dedicated Control System for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors

The drive side of the beam pump permanent magnet package: field-oriented control for torque at low frequency, plus the network interfaces to put the well on SCADA.

TYP-T3-F is the intelligent control device matched to the permanent magnet intelligent drive motor for beam pumping units. It exists to do two jobs at once — control the machine, and put the well on the network.

Control is field-oriented, resolving the permanent magnet field directly. That gives fast dynamic response and, more importantly for this duty, high torque at low frequency. The drive protects against short circuit, overload, over-voltage, phase loss and loss of synchronism.

The digital module switches between local and remote control and connects over Ethernet, RS485 and wireless ZigBee — to the SCADA centre, to the drive, and to wireless sensors on the pumping unit — for automatic data acquisition, analysis and remote control. A multi-function meter measures energy use to high precision and uploads it in real time.

As with the motor package, the cabinet heats itself at low ambient and cools itself at high ambient for unattended oilfield service.

Selection guide

A beam pumping unit needs real torque at the bottom of the speed range, where a scalar V/f drive is weakest. Resolving the magnet field directly is what makes low-frequency torque available.
Stroke rate, power draw and fault state come back from the well without a visit, and the stroke rate can be changed remotely. On a field of many wells that is usually where the operating saving shows up, separately from the motor efficiency.
