An IC code classifies coolant circuits and movement methods. It does not prove that the installed room, duct, water supply or auxiliary fan can deliver the conditions assumed by the motor design.
Decode the cooling circuit before selecting the motor
Compare the data sheet, outline drawing and site layout. Identify who supplies coolers, fan power, water controls, filters and differential-pressure indication. Review operation after loss of an auxiliary fan or cooling-water flow.
Cooling boundary
| Item | Engineering purpose | Review action |
|---|---|---|
| Primary circuit | Internal coolant path | Check recirculation and contamination |
| Secondary circuit | External heat rejection | Confirm air or water conditions |
| Auxiliary equipment | Fans, pumps or coolers | Define power and alarms |
| Site interface | Ducts and clearances | Verify pressure loss and access |
Evidence required before approval
Commission with airflow direction, fan rotation, water flow, leakage and alarm checks. Approve the IC designation only with a complete interface schedule and derating decision for abnormal cooling.
Retain the equipment revision and test record. Name the reviewer. Keep open assumptions visible.
Commissioning decision
Never approve a copied setting. Confirm interface compatibility and operating limits. Exercise the intended response during a functional test.
