GTYPS Series

GTYPS Series Water-Cooled High-Speed Variable-Frequency Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

The water-cooled version of the high-speed permanent magnet platform — same direct-drive concept, with the heat taken out through a jacket instead of an airstream.

GTYPS series water-cooled high-speed permanent magnet synchronous motor

GTYPS must be run on a dedicated permanent magnet drive. The rotor carries interior magnets, whose differing direct- and quadrature-axis magnetic paths give the machine a degree of reluctance torque, and runs synchronously with the stator field — no slip, no slip loss, high efficiency across the whole speed range.

The difference from GTYP is the cooling. A water jacket removes heat far more effectively than an airstream, which allows a smaller, lighter machine at the same rating and makes the design workable in installations where a large volume of clean cooling air is not available.

Ingress protection goes up to IP67 and the thermal class is 180 (H) assessed to class B rise, which together describe a machine intended to sit in a harder environment than an air-cooled equivalent.

Selection guide

When there is no clean cooling air to spare, when the ambient is hot, when the acoustic budget rules out a large fan, or when the machine simply has to be smaller than an air-cooled equivalent at the same rating.
A water-cooled machine brings its own plant requirement — flow rate, inlet temperature, water quality and a failure mode if the flow stops. Send us the available cooling supply with the enquiry; it constrains the design as much as the electrical rating does.
Same duty, different heat path. Take GTYP if air cooling is available and adequate — it is the simpler installation. Take GTYPS when the constraint is space, ambient, noise or air quality.
