A conventional cooling tower drive puts an induction motor outside the tower and runs a drive shaft through to a gearbox inside it, which turns the fan. DZTYP replaces that whole chain: the direct-drive permanent magnet motor mounts in the gearbox position and drives the fan directly. The mechanical linkage, and its losses and maintenance, are gone.

The motor is controlled by an intelligent variable-frequency cabinet with soft anti-reverse protection after a power failure, stop or fault alarm, regenerative braking, automatic heating against condensation at low ambient, automatic cooling at high ambient, and over-torque, over-voltage and over-current protection.

IP67 and class H insulation are there for a reason — this machine sits inside a cooling tower, in a permanently wet, warm airstream.

Selection guide

A system, not a motor. The drive cabinet is matched to the machine and carries the protection functions — anti-reverse, regenerative braking, condensation heating. Specifying the motor alone misses most of the point.
Removing the transmission removes its losses and its maintenance points. On the recorded cooling tower retrofits the energy saving is around 11%; on ball mill and kiln drive conversions where more transmission stages disappear, around 20%.
The machine lives inside the tower plenum, in a saturated warm airstream, often with intermittent operation that invites condensation. A standard IP55 class F machine in that position is a warranty conversation waiting to happen.
