A grease change is a materials decision, not a colour match. Mixing incompatible products can change consistency, release oil or reduce mechanical stability.

Question Required record Stop when
What is installed? Product name and batch/maintenance history Existing grease is unknown
What is proposed? Supplier technical data sheet Only a generic grade is stated
Are they compatible? Product-specific confirmation or test Decision relies on thickener alone
How will changeover occur? Purge/cleanout method and quantity Bearing cannot discharge old grease safely

Plan the changeover

Confirm bearing type, speed, temperature, orientation and relubrication arrangement. Decide whether a gradual purge is acceptable or a full cleanout is required. Keep drains open where instructed and add grease at the specified rate while observing temperature and discharge condition.

Do not copy interval or quantity from a different frame. High speed, vertical shafts, contamination and elevated temperature can change the appropriate plan.

Label the motor with approved grease and amount, update the CMMS, and retain the compatibility basis. Trend bearing temperature and vibration after changeover; abnormal rise requires investigation, not another uncontrolled addition.
