VCI molecules need an enclosed space and compatible surfaces. A sheet draped over an open skid is not equivalent to a sealed preservation system. Start by defining transport route, storage location, climate exposure, opening frequency and expected preservation period.

Assign a purpose to every layer

Layer or control Purpose Verification before release
Clean, dry motor condition Avoid trapping contamination or free water Inspection and packing sign-off
Protected metal compatibility Confirm VCI is suitable for exposed metals and finishes Supplier technical data review
VCI material and placement Establish protected enclosure volume Product, quantity and placement record
Barrier bag or wrap Limit exchange with ambient air Seal inspection and repair method
Desiccant where specified Manage moisture within the defined barrier system Quantity, condition and placement
Humidity indicator where specified Provide a visible storage check Location and reading instructions
External crate and restraints Control handling, impact and mechanical movement Packing drawing and inspection

Keep VCI materials away from surfaces where the supplier identifies incompatibility. Protect machined shafts and flanges according to the approved preservation system, and prevent wrap from chafing through during transport.

Plan for opening and storage

Customs checks, receiving inspection and site access can break the protective envelope. Put resealing materials and instructions where the receiving team can find them. Record every opening, barrier repair, humidity indication and preservation renewal.

Storage inspections should check barrier damage, water entry, crate condition, shaft preservation and signs of condensation. If the storage period or climate changes, reassess the system rather than extending the original date by assumption.

Use Export Packaging and Storage for Industrial Motors for the complete logistics plan and Spare Motor Storage for periodic preservation activities.
