NEMA Standard

NEMA PE

NEMA Premium Efficiency Three-Phase Induction Motor (Design B)

Built to the NEMA standard — ANSI/NEMA MG 00001, the publication long known as MG 1 — for the North American market: frames 143T through 586/7T, 60 Hz, at NEMA Premium efficiency.

NEMA MG 1Design B60 Hz
NEMA Premium efficiency three-phase induction motor

A single-speed, totally enclosed fan-cooled, continuous-duty low-voltage squirrel-cage induction motor designed and built to the American NEMA standard, Design B. NEMA classifies polyphase motors by torque and slip as Design A, B, BE, C, CE and D; this series covers the A and B designs, while high-slip oil-well pump duty is served by the separate NEMA D series.

Mounting arrangements are the NEMA equivalents of the IEC forms: T (B3), TC (B34), TD (B35) and TCRD/TDRD (V18 or V1). Shaft extensions are T (standard) or TS (short); frames 250T and above are supplied with grease inlet and drain.

For the 100–250 HP band LEADGO also builds the SPE variant of this series at IE4 efficiency, in frames 405T to 586/7T, developed for the United States requirement that motors in that power band reach IE4 from June 2027. The 2024 edition of the NEMA standard added a Super Premium efficiency level of its own, in clause 12.62 and Table 12-23, which is the North American reference point for this variant. SPE is an efficiency upgrade within this product line, not a separate series — it shares the frame and mounting dimensions.

Selection guide

Motors carrying the CSA certification number are built at 230/460 V, 460 V or 575 V, all at 60 Hz. Other voltages can be built but fall outside that certification.
A motor supplied with a terminal board cannot carry the CSA mark unless it is separately CSA-certified with the board fitted. Frame 440 and above requires a shaft grounding ring before a variable-frequency nameplate can be applied. Tell us the site requirement and we will confirm what the nameplate can state.
From 1 June 2027 motors rated 100–250 HP must meet IE4 to enter the United States. The SPE variant of this series covers that band in frames 405T to 586/7T and shares mounting dimensions with the standard PE frames.
