A reactor can reduce current slew and cable-related stress, but it is not interchangeable with a du/dt or sine-wave filter. Drive type, switching frequency, cable length, motor insulation and required waveform must be assessed together.
Select an output reactor for a defined problem
Use the drive manufacturerβs permitted cable lengths and filter tables for the exact frame and voltage. Check reactor current, inductance, thermal loss, enclosure, audible noise and voltage drop across the operating range.
Filter decision
| Item | Engineering purpose | Review action |
|---|---|---|
| Output reactor | Series inductance | Limit current change and some cable effects |
| du/dt filter | Voltage-edge control | Reduce terminal voltage rise rate |
| Sine filter | Waveform reconstruction | Applications needing near-sinusoidal output |
| Common-mode filter | Common-mode current path | Bearing and EMC investigation |
Evidence required before approval
Measure motor-terminal waveform only with suitable high-bandwidth probes and safe procedures. Approve the device when the stated stress is reduced without compromising motor torque, drive control or thermal duty.
Retain the equipment revision and test record. Name the reviewer. Keep open assumptions visible.
Commissioning decision
Never approve a copied setting. Confirm interface compatibility and operating limits. Exercise the intended response during a functional test.
